About

Sherri James is Vice President of Rock Capital Entertainment (www.rockcapitalstudios.com), an entertainment company founded by Steven Belser.

Prior to working with Belser, James helped launch music mogul Christopher B. Stokes’ Christopher Brian Films. As the company’s Senior Vice President of Production, James laid the blueprint for the company’s operations, establishing the business model that the company still follows today. While there, James produced the urban horror film SOMEBODY HELP ME, sold the dance film BACK DOWN to Morgan Creek and helped develop two television shows that sold to The CW.

James began her career in the Hollywood Pictures Story Department and was later promoted to Creative Associate in the Walt Disney Pictures Creative Group. Boldly striking out on her own as a producer in 2005, James produced the indie feature film FORFEIT, which starred Sherry Stringfield (“ER”) and Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld”). In addition, James has produced several award-winning short films, including “Gabrielle,” “One Flight Stand,” “The Male Groupie,” and “Saturday Night Life.” Each of these films has gone on to win awards at festivals as well as secure distribution – an unusual accomplishment for any short film. “Gabrielle” even received a letter of commendation from noted Hollywood director Rob Reiner, was a finalist for the 2002 Showtime Black Filmmaker Award and has been picked up for distribution by Showtime Networks. “One Flight Stand” was a 2004 Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival, a finalist in the HBO Short Film Competition and has been picked up for distribution by HBO. “Male Groupie” was also a finalist in the HBO Short Film Competition and has been picked up for distribution by HBO. “Saturday Night Life” became a finalist for the Showtime Black Filmmaker Award and is currently being distributed by Showtime Networks.

James holds an MFA from USC’s Peter Stark Motion Picture Producing Program and a BFA with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. James is currently a student in the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary.
